Former Arizona LB Jabar Triplett Transfers To Grambling State

Grambling State enters Year 1 of the Hue Jackson era and has been one of the most active teams on the recruiting trail this offseason. The Tigers signed a record 36 prospects on National Signing Day and have landed multiple impact transfers over these past few weeks. Grambling State landed another huge transfer this weekend as former Arizona linebacker Jabar Triplett announced his commitment to the Tigers.

Triplett was a consensus 3-star recruit out of Baton Rouge, LA in the class of 2020. Triplett was a standout at Southern Lab where he was a two-time All-Conference selection and an All-State selection his senior year. The 6-foot, 215-pound linebacker totaled 121 tackles, 11 sacks, 5 interceptions, and 3 defensive touchdowns in his senior season for Southern Lab. Triplett held offers from Arizona, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, & Colorado State before he announced his commitment to the Wildcats in October of 2019.

Triplett did not see any action during the 2020 or 2021 seasons due to injuries. A torn Achilles kept Triplett sidelined for the 2020 season and then he suffered a knee injury in January of 2021 that kept him sidelined for the following season. Triplett was active during Arizona’s spring practice this season, but announced his entry into the transfer portal in June. Triplett will have four years of eligibility left for the Tigers.

Grambling State has loaded up on both sides of the ball this offseason, but the defense looks to be the strength of the Tigers in the 2022 season. Triplett will join former 4-star LSU linebacker Donte Starks as the new additions to the linebacker core for the Tigers. Joshua Reed also returns for the Tigers at the linebacker spot after ranking second on the team in tackles for the 2021 season.

The Tigers open the 2022 season against Arkansas State on September 3rd as they look to win their first SWAC Championship since 2017.
