Four-Time State Champion LB Seth Hampton Commits To North Alabama

North Alabama will enter a new era in 2023 as Brent Dearmon takes over as head coach for the Lions. The Lions landed a massive commitment from in-state linebacker Seth Hampton.

Seth Hampton was a key piece in multiple state championship runs for Thompson High School. He finished his high school career with four state championship victories. He was a two year starter for the Warriors and played in four games as a sophomore in 2020.

Hampton led the Warriors with 99 total tackles and ranked second with 17 tackles for loss last season. He also ranked third on the team with three interceptions. As junior Hampton finished the season with 69 total tackles and ranked third on the team with 16 tackles for loss.

Hampton spoke with Zach McKinnell of The Bluebloods about his decision to commit to North Alabama.

“North Alabama has been on my top schools list for awhile,” said Hampton about his decision to commit to North Alabama. “I love the city of Florence and I have family in north Alabama that will be able to see me play a lot.”

The Lions have a completely new staff under new head coach Brent Dearmon. But Hampton was able to form a close bond with new linebackers coach Deshaun Davis. Davis was a SEC All-Conference linebacker in 2018 at Auburn University and played under Dearmon at Vigor High School in Mobile, AL.

“I grew up an Auburn fan and watching Deshaun Davis at Auburn,” said Hampton about Davis. “I’ve played linebacker most of my life. Guys like him who were undersized for their position, like me, are guys I love to see play. I am excited to be getting first hand coaching from him.”

The Lions defense will be led by new defensive coordinator Brock Caraboa. Caraboa previously served as the defensive coordinator at Tiffin University. He was named a finalist for the FootballScoop.com Coordinator of the Year in 2019. Hampton expressed his excitement about his potential role in Caraboa’s scheme.

“Coach Caraboa has a great defensive mind and I love what he is going to do defensively. I feel like he is very flexible and will have a good scheme based on what our team is good at.”

The Lions will begin the Brent Dearmon era on the road against Mercer on Aug 26.
