Former Temple DB Andrew Garwo Transfers To UT-Martin

UT-Martin will look to defend their OVC Championship in 2022 and the Skyhawks have been reloading on the recruiting trail this offseason. The secondary for the Skyhawks was a major strength last season and ranked 2nd in the OVC in interceptions. The secondary landed a major commitment from former Temple defensive back Andrew Garwo who announced his transfer to UT-Martin on social media.

Garwo was a 3-star prospect out of Levittown, PA and ranked as a Top-50 player in the state of Pennsylvania. He played multiple positions at Conwell Egan Catholic on both sides of the ball, but spent most of his time as a defensive back and wide receiver. Garwo was a three-time First Team All-Catholic selection throughout his high school career. The 6-foot, 180-pound athlete announced his commitment to Colorado State, but decommitted after the staff was accused of promoting a toxic environment. Garwo announced his commitment to Temple less than two weeks later over offers from programs including Air Force, Akron, Boston College, Navy, and Bowling Green.

Garwo redshirted his first season at Temple and did not see any action for the Owls during the 2021 season. He announced his transfer in April after the conclusion of spring practices for the Owls. Garwo received offers from Bryant, Eastern Illinois, UT-Martin, & Eastern Kentucky. He will have four years of eligibility left for the Skyhawks.

The Skyhawks lost Jay Woods, Shawn Shamburger, and Takeem Young from the talented secondary in 2021. FCS Freshman All-American Oshae Baker returns and should be one of the leaders of the secondary in 2022. Garwo will join Bryant transfer Andre Brackett, Georgia State transfer Tyler Gore, and Houston transfer Shaun Lewis as some notable additions to the secondary for UT-Martin.

UT-Martin will open the 2022 season against Western Illinois on September 1st before traveling to face another MVFC contender in Missouri State in Week 2.
