3-Star CB Davion Corpening Announces Commitment To VMI

VMI enters the 2022 season looking to build on their 6-5 season and head coach Scott Wachenheim has the Keydets primed to compete in the SoCon. The Keydets picked up a major commitment from cornerback Davion Corpening who announced his commitment to VMI on social media Monday morning.

Corpening is a 3-star prospect out of Newport News, VA and currently ranks as a Top-40 prospect in the state of Virginia. The 5-foot-10, 174-pound cornerback is a standout at Warwick High School and played a huge role in leading the team on a state playoff run last season. Corpening was a 1st Team All-District selection and was a 2nd Team All-Region selection on both sides of the ball last season. He totaled over 34 tackles, 3 interceptions, 2 sacks, and 13 pass breakups last season for Warwick.

Corpening announced his commitment to VMI over other programs including Maryland and James Madison. Corpening plays very well in open space and does an excellent job making plays on the football. He can fit into a zone or man scheme at the next level and will have the athleticism to be a top cornerback for the Keydets. This was an important pickup for VMI as the Keydets lose All-Conference defensive back Aljareek Malry after this season.

VMI opens the 2022 season on the road against Wake Forest on September 1st before taking on Bucknell in Week 2. The Keydets will be aiming to win their 2nd SoCon championship under Scott Wachenheim.
